
Sharon Walia - Film Director





Sharon Walia is a documentary filmmaker known for her original and authentic content focusing on topics from wildlife to social justice. Her debut feature, The Movement; a gripping look at everyday heroes rescuing refugees on land, sea and from air was theatrically released in cinemas and is now streaming on Amazon Prime. Her follow-up film, The Keepers of the Pigs, also saw a UK wide theatrical release and was picked up by Netflix. Passionate about empowering the next generation of filmmakers, Sharon actively mentors creatives on how to fund and distribute their work independently. Her impactful refugee reporting earned her a Royal Television Society nomination for the Diversity award. A full BAFTA member, she also serves as a Trustee for Broadway Cinema and the Young Creatives Network. She is a film judge for a number of festivals and was selected as a documentary juror for the BAFTA film awards 2025. Sharon reached the last round of the Looking for Louis (Theroux) competition and has also produced and edited a 5 part series on the children of the Windrush generation.
